Christmas time

Our little family had so much fun enjoying the Temple Square lights this year! We made our annual trip to see the lights but this time we decided to take the train and Ella loved riding it. She has never been on a train before so this was a first. I can tell that this year is going to be so much fun because she is starting to understand what "Christmas" is and "Santa."

This silly girl would not hold still for a picture but luckily the weather was pretty nice when we went and so at least she isn't crying.

Our Christmas tree was scaled down by a few feet but I still had a blast decorating it.

This little girl had a birthday and my sweet Ella is now 3 YEARS OLD!

You can see that she is full of life and enjoys being busy and having fun. She loves nursery, friends, dance, wrestling with dad and playing with mom's makeup! Ella has a huge vocabulary and she is a social bug!! Ella is officially potty trained and she has learned to make her bed and say her prayers!

Even when Ella can't help put the leaves in the bags, she will certainly be there to welcome you when you put them into the garbage can. (Notice the book she is holding)

It was a first for Ella to go ice skating as well! She gave it a good try and after about 30 minutes she was done. She loved having her uncles carry her around the rink and "go faster."

For Ella's 3rd birthday I braved a birthday party and we had a great time. Ella isn't quite to the age where she cares for or has a preference on what the theme of the party is, so I took charge and we did a "Ella and Mini Mouse Clubhouse" theme. It turned out really cute and although Ella could care less how much effort I put into the birthday cake, I must say I was pretty proud of myself! I am not sure that 4 1/2 hours for a cake is worth it but it was fun to do!

It was so cute. I made a pair of mickey/minnie ears for each of the kids (had 10 kids there) and then we played a game where each kid had to find a piece of cheese to get their grab bags. The kids where so good and so cute with their little ears on.

This little munchkin is so stinkin cute and we love having her energetic, full of life, happy little smile in our family. Ella 3 year stats: 28 lbs (25%) Height: 36.5"(50%)

It's a Dance Revolution

ELLA'S FIRST DAY OF DANCE

After much deliberation we decided one way we could put Ella's energy to good use would be to enroll her in dance. Boy does it work! This girl loves to dance, run, stand on her tiptoes, and follow her teacher Ms. Kathy, very closely. She gets so excited each Tuesday to giggle with the girls and get her wiggles out at the same time. Each week they practice the same routine so that the girls can easily follow and then they gradually include more technique and complexity.

It was impossible to get this little lady to hold still for the picture but you can tell she loves the pom-poms and running around.

The other night Ella decided it was her turn to put ME to bed. It was about 10:30 pm and I actually thought I would take her up on the offer. She held my hand till we got to my room and she promptly got me a glass of water. She proceeded to jump up on my bed and undo the covers. While I was getting into bed she said it was time to say my prayers and the prayer went like this;

"Heavenly Fauder, please bless the.....foods. Bless the home.....and the....SLIDES (with enthusiasm). Bless the friends and the boys.......LOTS of boys. Amen"

I was trying so hard not to laugh but she kissed my forehead and left the room. Ella apparently didn't go to bed for another hour when her daddy finally made her go.

Home Sweet Home

One of the most favorite memories I have growing up are of our family vacations to Colter Bay in Teton National Park. Colter Bay is the home to so much wildlife and gorgeous scenery. Ever since I was a kid I always promised myself that I would keep going back to that place forever and ever. Since then..... I have never missed a summer.

I swear I did not teach my child to pose, but for some reason she is pulling quite the "Diva" pose.

This is our smiling little girl morning, evening, and night! We just love having Ella in our lives and her smile brings so much joy to this mama.

It is no wonder why we don't just love this place. Those mountains are so amazing up close!! I know Heavenly Father took great pride and consideration when he created them. WE LOVE THE TETONS!! :)

We Will Never Forget

I still remember that day, like it was yesterday. I remember I was on my way to school at USU and it was a crisp cool morning. I was only about half way to school and I had the radio on when they came on and told us that one of the World Trade Centers had been hit by a plane. I really didn't understand the magnitude of the disaster until I got up to school. I headed to the TSC to watch the television and see what was going on. When I entered the halls of the TSC it was silent and all eyes were glued to the TV. Every television was on and there was horror on everyone's faces. Students were scrambling for their cell phones and crying.

On Tuesday September 11th, the world stopped turning.

As the horror continued unfold I remember they cancelled school but people couldn't talk with their family because all the phone lines were jammed and planes were grounded. Even being over a 1,000 miles away from ground zero, I was terrified.

"Freedom itself was attacked this morning by a faceless coward and freedom will be defended." -- President Bush, Sept. 11.

Discovery #1. We discovered the best time to visit Hogle Zoo is when all the other kids are in school and it is a comfortable 78 degrees outside.

Discovery #2. Mason is just about Ella's age and the two of them are two peas in a pod. From the moment they see each other till the last goodbye, those two kids will play play play!

The Relief Society in our ward did a "Fancy Nancy" theme and you were to dress up in your silly dresses and go to a dinner party. Ella saw me stealing all her dress ups and she says to me "mommy you so pretty for the party, I need to be SO pretty for the party too!" I didn't really feel I could tell her "no, only mommy gets to dress up and go to a party." So we got her dressed up (lipstick to) and headed out the door for a ladies evening out! Just Ella and me.

This evening attire consisted of pink leggings, a pink leotard with a stunning tutu! Also pink ducky boots and glittery necklaces from the dollar store. We had so much fun at the party, just Ella and me. Ella was adorable!

Did I say adorable??? Pulling funny faces just never gets old!

Gone Fishin'

Isn't fishing so fun! Ella and her friend "Nason" had a great time fishing in gorgeous Fairview UT. We had the opportunity to join some friends for a fun weekend in the mountains and I can't think of a better way to spend it!

Oddly enough....I was the only one who caught a fish and it wasn't very big so he got to live to see another day.

This cute little fisher lady just wanted to play with the fishing rod and could care less if she scared the fish away.

That smile is the sign of a good time, and good company.

The other day I decided to take my two year old to the mall with me while I ran in, got a pair of shorts and got out. It sounded simple and it should have been simple..... but when a two year old is involved, NOTHING is simple. I guess I can see where a mall would be a big playground to a two year old but I am sure I looked like the mother who had no control over her child. At one point a made her hold my hand but that quickly became too confining and she began to run ahead of me. Really I wasn't too worried until she made a left hand turn into Maurices and began running around the mannequins and hitting the advertisement posters in the front window of the store! Horrified I quickly ran into Maurices to stop this crazy child! After all..........who's kid was this??? If anyone has dealt with a two year old, you know that when you chase a kid, it becomes the game of cat and mouse. Ella hurried to the front of the store again and began hiding from me near the mannequins. Just as I reached for her, she took off running in the opposite direction and nailed a mannequin and it came tumbling down. Even better, an arm went rolling towards me. I defeatedly took the arm to the clerks desk and glanced over just in time to see this little blonde tornado heading out the door. Without hesitation and with much frustration I grabbed her by the arm and spanked her TWICE in front of everyone! I felt like right then and there I should have received MOTHER OF THE YEAR AWARD.

Oh Ella! Ella has grown so much in the last year and I can hardly believe it! Sometimes I wonder if I am raising a two year old or a teenager. Her personality is shining and she is great entertainment to have around. Just yesterday she came up to me and put her hands on my face and said "mommy, I take care of you." I nearly melted into a puddle. She is a parrot when it comes to repeating what mom and dad say and she knows the right context to use those words in (for better or for worse). Ella is mischievous as ever and the word "NO" has absolutely no impact on her.

Perfect example of what a picky eater does. Ella will claim she is not hungry and pursues to climb on the counter and nibble on, not one, but TWO apples. She is a forever cheese fan, but could care less about eating anything else. at exactly 8:05 am every morning I see her curled up to her blanket with her head on my bed and right next to my ear I hear "foods mommy, foods." The only thing she can think of at that hour is cheese! So strange! We have other issues we are dealing with daily. For example; currently we are working on potty training and it totally depends on her mood that day if it will be a success or utter failure!

Ella LOVES her uncles. For some reason these two toe-heads have a very cute bond and Ella really adores her uncle "Nafan." Ella just loves being social in general! After each prayer during sacrament on Sunday she will shout "NURSERY TIME?" She loves other kids, big or small and even blesses our cute little babysitter in her prayers at night. She is getting to be such a kid and not so much a baby or a toddler anymore. The "terrible twos" haven't been so bad as it has been a learning period for mommy :)

Hospital 101

Our family never seems to have a dull moment when it comes to being in the hospital and for many years now we have been preparing for Jake to have abdominal surgery done. That day had arrived. Jake has always been so dang positive (almost annoyingly) when it comes to health problems. His motto is "what won't kill you will only make you stronger." While I don't share the same enthusiasm about health problems, his attitude has taught me a lot about enduring to the end. Jake had all the odds stacked up against him to heal but his faith never wavered and the prayers just kept coming.

Many people (including the mayor of Sandy) sent him "Get Well" cards that we posted right in front of his bed so he could see them. Thank you for your prayers, help with Ella and support during this trial. We love you and we are so grateful to you all!

After ten days in the hospital, 25 lbs less and a lot of challenges, Jake was finally able to eat real food! Hospital food....you have never tasted so GOOD!

Okay, maybe we will just stick with the popsicles!

Jake had had quite a few complications but really tried hard to keep that smile on his face. I was with him most of the day and into the night. In the evenings it always seemed to become quiet in the hospital and even though he was a little drowsy most of the time, I would lay next to him in his hospital bed and hold his hand. It became a regular date night!

Although a hospital is not the ideal place to have a "room with a view." For as much time was spent there, I was glad we got to see this each evening out of his window.

Jake has now been out of the hospital for two weeks and is feeling really good. He still is a little weak and has about 15 more pounds to gain before he doesn't look emaciated anymore. He is a living miracle that prayers do work and we are so glad to have him home! PS: doesn't he look hot in that gown and hospital socks!

Changing brakes with daddy

Wow! It has been OH too long since we have posted on the blog but as I am looking back at pictures there is one thing that hasn't changed and that is my busy little two year old. She insisted on helping dad changed the brakes. Whether it is changing brakes, cleaning the yard, painting a wall or just plain hanging out in the lounge chair, Ella likes to be right beside her daddy.

She is a fast learner, maybe we will have her change the oil next!

Florida Trip

We decided this year to take a family trip to sunny Florida to get out of the cold weather in Utah. A wonderful 78 degrees with a bit of humidity was all it took to make us happy. Jake and I took Ella to the Miami Sea Aquarium (similar to Sea World) and had an awesome time. Ella loved seeing dolphins, killer whales, sea lions, sea turtles and so much more.

This was right after the killer whale SOAKED the audience with her fin and Ella was quite upset about the whole thing!

But...it didn't take her long to get back into the show.

The family went down to the southern most part of the U.S. to Key West. It was beautiful and very romantic! We watched the most amazing sunset each night and enjoyed the music that people would be playing along the piers.

There was nothing blocking our view from this beautiful sun setting on the water in the Florida Keys. The beach to the right is a private island that you can only get to by boat or helicopter for the rich and famous (Operah Windfrey, The Hilton sisters, Julia Roberts). I still felt like we had our own personal sunset!

Why We Own Cameras

So I have discovered that there are really only two reasons to own a camera. The first reason is to take a camera on vacation or when sight seeing to have memories of different places. The second reason to own a camera is to take pictures of your kids. I swear when children do the most naughty things, that is when we pull out the cameras and start taking pictures! It reminds me of being in nature and coming across wildlife and stopping to take pictures. When your child approaches you with the funniest (and sometimes not so funny) moments, it is our duties as parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friend and family to whip out the camera and begin taking photos of moments.... such as these!

It was WAY passed Ella's bedtime but she insisted on eating some food. This was the result before she even began eating.

I came into the kitchen after feeding Ella some pomegranate seeds to find the seeds devoured and the container used as a hat!

Last, but certainly not the least.....I left the room for (no joke) three minutes and noticed my daughter go sneaking passed the computer room to my room. She must have climbed on top of my dresser, got my lipstick down and proceeded to smear it across her face from ear to ear! This was the product of those three minutes alone and trust me, it wasn't just on her face. I found lipstick "handprints" left so nicely for me on the couch, wall, my shirt, and dresser. But again.... the cameras were invented to take pictures of moments like these, so we can look back at our children and have a good laugh!

Being Ella's Mommmy

Being the mommy of this cute little stink has been so much fun. I have learned SO much being a mommy and yes it is tough, but I wouldn't take it back for ANYTHING! As my Dolly grows into a mischevious and busy little toddler, I keep thinking how many things she has learned to do and NOT to do. Each day is a trial and error and I have been so blessed to have her as my daughter. Here are just a few things I have learned being the mommy of Ella:

1. "Bee you" means to lay by her at night and read a bedtime story

2. She has an undying love for cheese, any kind!

3. Bath time means mommy gets a bath too! Whether or not she wanted one!

4. Ella's favorite movie: Sandlot, Cars and Cinderella

5. Ella has a slight obsession with "lips" which is lip gloss

6. She has NO interest in potty training

7. Strangers are not strange, so she will go to anyone (scary)

8. "Come back" means to run faster in the opposite direction

9. Playtime consists of coloring, playdough, back to coloring, "treat", throwing the playdough and smearing the remains of "treat" on mommy.

10. Wipes are more fun to play with than a store bought toy

11. She loves to go on walks and play on the "sides."

12. It's very important to sing a song while brushing teeth

13. She has learned to beg for forgiveness rather than ask for permission

14. Dinnertime consists of eating off of mommy's plate (it must taste better that way)

15. And finally, a mile must be run throughout the house before going to bed.

No need for a kleenex!!

Why do I have picture of a cow licking his nose? Well not only is it a funny picture and yes I did laugh when I saw it. But my dear sweet daughter has discovered that there is no use anymore for kleenex tissues and she can take matters into her own hands (or tongue) when it comes to a runny nose. I have watched children many times take advantage of this "interesting" behavior, but I always thought it was because they had never been taught to properly use a kleenex. Well...I am slowly learning that children are "low maintenence" and prefer to do "many" things on their own. Even when it comes to taking care of proper hygiene. Before I could even get a kleenex to Ella's nose, I see her stick her tongue to that runny nose and "slurp!" Yep....I thought I was going to throw up! And then to make things worse she says "yummy!!" WOW!! I have entered a new realm of parenthood.

Monster Truck Bash!!

What a way to spend a Saturday! We went to a Monster Truck Rally in Salt Lake yesterday and enjoyed some good rough neck entertainment! It was so fun! At first I was a little skeptical because I didn't know what to expect but I quickly learned that there is a whole world of Monster Truck entertainment that is fun for the whole family! I didn't bring Ella because I was afraid it would be too loud, but seeing all the dad's with their little boys and the families who make it a yearly tradition, I realized this is fun for everyone!

Here are the things you can learn at a Monster Truck Rally:

1. These trucks are HUGE!

2. They are very loud and will guarantee you a headache when you leave

3. The trucks "bounce" in the air

4. My brothers use to own similar trucks but would play with them in the sand and were MUCH smaller

5. It is possible to get mud flipped on you even being higher than the truck

6. They run on steam and not fuel-so we all don't die of carbon monoxide poisoning in the arena

7. This is a "guy" kinda sport

8. There are lots of mullets, cowboy hats, and naughty t-shirts

9. I had a blast!

Putting yourself to bed

Ella has a new hobby and it is to NOT take her naps. She has been refusing to sleep at naptime ever since we got rid of the crib. So she now puts herself to sleep! When Ella is ready to have a little "down time" she will fall asleep in random but entertaining places.

I just laughed when I found her on her bed because as you will notice, she is wearing her sunday shoes that she just adores.

Countless times she will begin a movie and fall asleep before it has even begun....like mother like daughter!

We shut her in her room so she would go to bed one night and when we came in to check on her, she was asleep on the recliner. So entertaining!

Christmas At The Collett's

For Christmas this year we decided to have our own little Christmas with just our family. It was a little different but so much fun with my hubby and our daughter. Christmas was a bit unusual though because after having the stomach flu all week, Jake got it Christmas morning! Sorry love!

Ella didn't seem to mind her parents barely moving, she was just in it for the presents. She doesn't quite understand what Santa brings or the excitement involved, but she sure didn't mind having a bunch of toys underneath the Christmas tree for herself!

She is always trying to ride our friends little boys power wheel, so I decided she had better get her own. I use to want one of these so bad as a kid! I guess I am living vicariously through my child.

Ella's most favorite toy was the stackable train! She runs that thing through the house making train noises. I guess I should have known she would take favor to a train with how many times we ride the mall train.

We hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas. Next year, we better not be sick!!

Ella Swimming Lessons

Since Ella is our little "water bug" I decided to get her in some swimming lessons. She did pretty good, except for the whole float on your back thing. She loved to go under the water and kick her legs. The last day of swimming lessons, Jake had the day off so he took her while I took pictures.

Ladies at Temple Square

My friend Lezlee and I joined in on the David Archuleta spirit this year and went to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Concert. My family usually goes each year to support the family that we have participating in the choir. When Lezlee told me that she had never been to the Christmas Choir Concert I told her to join us!

It was freezing cold, but the lights on Temple Square were beautiful and the company was fabulous.

The set was amazing this year! I really enjoyed the concert and David did such a fantastic job. I do have to admit he is a little good looking!

Lezlee and I left the kids at home and had a fantastic Ladies Night Out! We went to dinner, walked around Temple Square and then ended the evening with a fabulous concert. We had a great time!

A Long Lasting Tradition

Every year since before I was born, my grandma Patch has made the BEST chocolates I have every tasted. My grandma is a great cook and has so much talent and I decided to join in on the fun in hopes that I can carry on the tastiest tradition!

We went to my grandma's house and spent the day making all kinds of chocolates. The story behind why my grandma began making chocolates is a very interesting story. When she was a young mother living in North Dakota, if a new church house was to be built, it was up to the members to come up with 70% of the funding. The way that my grandmother contributed, as well as other people, is that they made homemade chocolates and sold them. People from all over the county would faithfully buy grandma's chocolates during holidays. After a few years of saving, they had enough money and helped fund the building of the first ward house in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Kind of a cool story! My grandma is an expert at making chocolates and it was an honor to be able to help keep this tradition going! So yummy too!

Thanksgiving in Colorado

This year for Thanksgiving we changed it up a bit and headed to Colorado to see our good friends for Thanksgiving. After living in Colorado, I realized (once I left) that I left a beautiful place and love to visit as often as I can. They have a family tradition of cutting down a Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving and since that too has been a tradition in our family, we joined in!

The kids did great, for about the first three hours... then they got restless!

All three trucks got stuck multiple times from the slick, wet, melting snow so it took far longer than expected to get our trees.

The kids stayed busy sledding, making igloos, four wheeling, and drinking hot cocoa.

It took forever all day to get everyone unstuck and off the side of a cliff! Scary at times but what a memorable Thanksgiving!

Our New Found Love

We discovered a train in the mall close to where we live and it has become the highlight of our week. I think the train conductor is starting to wonder if I have a life outside of riding their mall train. We usually visit the train weekly and Ella just loves it! It is a great distraction for her and it keeps her confined in those carts!

We love to take friends along in our adventures. Here is Lezlee's boy Cole, who seems to be growling to the camera.

Ella has no care for rules. The whole keep your arms and legs in the cart thing, just isn't clicking with her!

Reflecting on 2010

This year we have had many fun adventures and many good memories. It seemed that the summer flew by quickly but when I think back on it, we did so much that it consumed the entire summer! We had three family reunions, one of which we were in charge of planning! This was our Collett reunion with family we had never met so it was such a treat to meet so many new faces.

Jake and I spent a whole week, just the two of us, in Yellowstone National Park and camping in Colter Bay. We went canoeing and hiking, fishing and site seeing. Saw lots of wildlife and made our annual trip to the Yellowstone Lodge. Such a beautiful part of this country and we look forward to going each year!

For Jake's birthday, I surprised him with tickets to one of his favorite bands, Nicklback. It was such a well done concert and Jake loved the pyrotechnics as well as the music.

Jake also got to go with a buddy of his jeeping and biking in Moab. We began this friend tradition a few years back when we would rent a hostil for a week and jeep all day long!! We now leave that tradition for the men to carry on because it became more of a constant hard attack for me on the ledges in Moab than it did fun.

Finally, the reunion that Jake and I hosted was our every two year reunion for the Patch family. Every two years my dad's side of the family has a family reunion placed in my grandparents yard so nicely nestled in the beautiful area of Midway, UT. My family takes reunions VERY seriously and we are very serious about fun and competition. Both of which we pulled off!! We had a fabulous time seeing family again and eating lots of great catered food. Can't wait to see what 2012 has in store.

Happy 2 Year Birthday Ella!

Has it really been two years ago since we brought our sweet Ella into the world? Wow how time has FLOWN by. She is such a a fun and spunky little girl with lots of energy! Ella came into the world talking and we haven't been able to get her to be quiet since then. Ella came on an evening with a full moon and a fresh white blanket of snow that covered the ground. My water broke at 12:30 am on Saturday December 13th and by 4:00 am, Ella was born with her eyes wide open and fully prepared to take on this world. She is the light of our life and a true joy!

She has always been a daddy's girl and the two of them have such a sweet bond that sometimes I wonder if she really needs me around! Ella loves to cuddle up with her daddy and daddy loves to take Ella to work and show her off to his associates.

Mommy and Ella enjoy reading books (especially Cinderella). Ella likes to do what mommy is doing. For example, if mommy is putting on makeup, Ella wants "lips" which is chapstick. We spend our days going for walks in the stroller, playing with friends, going for rides at the mall on the "Choo Choo Train" and eating string cheese with crackers.

We have always been amazed at Ella's vocabulary but it has made it so nice when it comes to communicating (prevents a lot of tantrums). Ella has created a little world for herself here at the Collett residence and we are forever grateful she chose our family to come down and be with for eternity!

Halloween Extravaganza!

So for Halloween this year some of our friends had a "traveling Halloween party" to Wendover! Not that Wendover is a frequent destination but with this crowd.... it doesn't matter what the destination is, it ends up being a blast! One of our friends is a country singer and owns his own tour bus that we all piled on and headed out of town. No kids were allowed and the party started around 9:00 pm. It was so fun and we were the only people dressed up so we seriously stood out! Our friend Jeremy was in the BEST costume EVER.....a tooth fairy. Our friend Paul even created a youtube video of him and titled it "A Beautiful Man." It will give you an idea of our evening! No one won thousands of dollars but Jake did walk away with $35 ahead! The fun ended at about 3:30 am and needless to say I am STILL tired three days later. I sure am not as young as I use to be but what a fun way to spend Halloween!

Ella was a duckling for Halloween! We thought this to be appropriate considering she is always making duck noises and quacking using her hands. She actually staying warm during the rain pore we endured while trick-or-treating.

First time trick-or-treating and she had a great time till it came to putting the candy INSIDE her bag. When the neighbors handed her the candy she just wanted to open it up and eat it right there. I'm not quite sure she has the concept.

Ella was always the last one to the door and the first one to grab for the candy..... I am thinking she got that from me!

I had decided this year to be a 1920's Flapper and tried to get Jake to be a Mafia member but he had his own costume in mind. A pirate......

Not Even Going To Try and Catch Up!

So we have seriously slacked off in the blogging world for a few months so I thought instead of trying to catch up, I will just blog on the recent part of life. Our sweet little Ella is almost two and full of more energy than I can possibly keep up with. So...to keep her entertained usually it involves a third party such as the train at the mall! Not sure how many times we went on it but she LOVED each moment. As you notice she has occupied a whole train cart to herself....this is not uncommon for her to do. Such a good girl but is beginning the terrible two's with random tantrums and current meltdowns. We also got about six inches of snow and so to entertain ourselves, Ella and I made a pumpkin snowman. Appropriate, I thought, considering it was still October when we got it!

All Witches Night!

I have never seen so many people get into the spirit of Halloween as I did when I went to the "Witches Night Out". Extravagant outfits and amazing artwork to the faces. It was a blast and as you can see....very entertaining. We even had a few celebrities there like Glenda the good witch and the Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus! Pretty convincing!!

We took Ella for her first Dentist check up today and she did pretty good for the 5 minutes she was in the chair. The only thing was that the Doctor told us no more binky!! Ella isn't a huge binkie sucker but it does help when bedtime comes around. I wasn't even thinking but he said that at about 12 months you should loose the binky. Oops! Well today it was the last day of the long lived binky. She didn't do to bad going to bed tonight but I will keep you posted on the future bedtimes. So long binky... you will be missed!

My family is a little weird

So sometimes I truly wonder what planet my family came from... including myself. It always seems to be if there is a serious moment or a time of mature behavior .. someone goes and ruins it with an "off the wall" comment or a funny face such as these. I was going through my pictures and began to identify that in most pictures, no one can take a serious photo or even a photo worth framing on your wall. If you know my family well, you know that there is no such thing as "normal" and we often rely on laughter to overcome the hard times. I guess it is a way of life. It seems a little "off" but hey.. it works for me!

Grandmas are glorified mommies

So I think I understand a little better why grandmas love being grandmas. Ever since Ella was born she has been loved by many. But I think the two most endearing people that love Ella the very most (next to mommy and daddy) are her grandma Patch and nana Collett. Both my mother and mother in law just love each moment with this child and I too love it because their motherly instincts take over and I quietly step aside and let them take the reins!! Now a mother's love never dies out and it shows when they rock her to sleep or play all day with her. Both of these women have greatly influenced my life and to see a grandma with her grandchild is like watching a kid in a candy store or seeing your husband get that new WII game for Christmas he has wanted for so long. So excited and so motherly that I almost wonder if my efforts will ever match theirs. I guess every occasion with their grandchild is like a celebration and anytime they get together the cameras come out and the kisses begin.

A day of serenity

Let me back up a few days before Mother's Day when I was starting to go "crazy"... My dear sweet child refused to sleep through the night (Now if she were 6 weeks old I could understand this but she was 16 MONTHS old). Keeping both Jake and I up in the night while we listened to her howl in the other bedroom. I couldn't even take a shower without her pounding on the shower door. Jake was working alot that week and couldn't help at home and the church callings were piling up! Now that you know my "soapbox".... you can maybe see what is coming next. Jake got home on Thursday and while I am whining to him I told him "I don't want to be a mom, I don't want to be a wife, I just want to be ME." To which he told me that I could have my Mother's day gift early if I would like and I was provided with a day at the spa full of of relaxation and serenity at the Brickhouse Retreat. They waited hand and foot on me and even gave me sparkling cider ( in a hefty wine glass) and delicious strawberries to feast on. All I could say was "ahhhhhhhhh... this was worth it."

An update that is way past due!!

Life sure does drive passed you so fast sometimes and it sometimes seems impossible to keep up with the daily grind at home AND remember to document those "moments" with your children on the blog. You know those moments that I am talking about... the ones that last for a split second and nobody else was there to witness it but YOU. For the mommies out there, you probably know that there are so many moments in your children's lives where you think "oh I should really write that down or document that in their baby book." Then later that day when you have a moment to sit in peace and write down what you wanted to, the thought leaves your mind and moments of history are lost. I HATE when that happens. I just have learned that by blogging it has become my digital journal and I need to be doing a better job of "taking note" of the small and big things that happen in our daily lives.

Life has been pretty good to us and it seems with this economy we should just be content with the fact that Jake has a great job and I get to stay at home with my energetic one year old. Ella is most definitely the highlight of our lives. Whoever said that your children grow up so fast..... was right! I rarely remember a moment that has lasted more than a week at a time before Ella is learning something new and more advanced the next week. We visited Colorado a month ago and my dear friend MaryAnn has two boys (two and four) and by the end of the week Ella was not going to crawl around when they were running from place to place and her determination and bruises on her knees showed by the end of the week but she was a walking little girl and has not stopped for a moment since then. She just CRASHES when she falls asleep, but from the minute she wakes up she is a ball of energy and a flirt. She is a spitting image of her daddy and although she may have my blond hair, everything else belongs to Jake. Such a sweet little thing.

My brother David returned from his mission 2 weeks ago from Cutitibia, Brazil. It was so fun to go to the airport and pick him up and it was the first time Ella got to meet her uncle David!

Christmas with a kid....

Well this Christmas was a little different from the years past. This year instead of me being the kid and getting the presents from Santa it was my turn to put out the presents!! Needless to say Ella had the most Christmas presents under the tree and cared the least about them. She was more fascinated by the Nativity scene and the Christmas boxes. Next year I am just going to wrap up remote controls, cell phones, and empty boxes that she can sit in. She would have a BLAST and I will save 99% of the cost we spent on her this year. But we had so much fun and remember when you were little and you couldn't WAIT to run down the stairs to the Christmas tree and see what was for you??? Well it all starts over when you have a kid. I was ready to go at 6:00 am and NO ONE was awake... including Ella! I waited in bed till eight and decided it was time to start waking everyone up to begin the party!! What a FUN day!!

Happy Birthday To Ella!!

My baby turned 1 year on the 13th of December and it was both a joyous and sad day. I was so excited for her to have her birthday but it was hard to let my baby turn one! I thought most one year olds were still small infants but it's not the case at ALL! This one year old is such a big girl and is loving every minute of life!!

Ella Stats:

17.4 lbs

28" long

loves to crawl, stand up to EVERYTHING, talk jiberish, says "mama" and " daddy" and "ah oh" and " thank you". She eats anything (including dog food) but eggs, prefers being naked, has 5 teeth and spins donuts in her sleep!

We had a family Christmas party so I just brought along the dessert and Ella provided the entertainment. She had no problem downing the cupcake she ate in a matter of seconds. I don't even think she cared about the candle, she just wanted the cake..... that's my girl!

As you can see she double fisted it the whole time.

For a little late Thanksgiving celebration and an early birthday party for Ella, we flew to Arizona to see Jake's family. We had so much fun and even though it wasn't much warmer down there... we still had a great time!

The plane ride was great and it was Ella's first time on a plane. I thought the confinement would kill her but she did great and just watched outside and slept the whole way.

A moment to remember

November 17th, 2005 was a day to remember!! It was the day that Jake and I were married...... that means four years ago Jake and I said I "I do" and we still haven't killed each other!! I consider that a day worth remembering!!! It was a perfect fall crisp day and I had the worst strep throat, but it went so smooth and although we have had bumps in the road since that day, I have never forgotten how in love I was.. and still am with my adorable husband. Love you Jake!!

Halloween At Its Finest...

Every Halloween it is tradition to dress up and since I was little Halloween has always been a Holiday we that we go all out for! This year it was a little harder to get dressed up because I had Ella tugging at my leg but I am supposed to be a " Who" from "whoville." Thanks to the cup on my head and the apron I borrowed from my aunt, I wouldn't say it was too bad!

When I say that it is tradition to dress up... I even meant the dogs. Yes max was a jailbird, Hanna a princess and Izzy a devil. Max and Izzy are Hanna's puppies but now they are twice the size of her!!

I think Hanna let her pride go when she joined this family. We love you Hanna!!

Real Game

We finally made it to the last Real Game of the season..... we have intended on going all season long but have failed miserably to support the Real soccer team this year. Finally on the last home game we went and had a blast. Ella loved all the lights and those plastic things you beat together to make noise during the games. We froze but had a lot of fun, next year we will try to be better fans!

Ella thoroughly enjoys being mobile.... she is constantly on the move and showing her independence already! She isn't walking yet but trying so hard to keep up with everyone by tearing it up on the floor! Go baby go....

A Halloween Tradition

Pumpkin carving has always been a MUST around Halloween and we wanted to keep the tradition alive by having some of the family come over. We love having company and now we have the room to do it!

Yellowstone in the fall...

Yellowstone in the fall is a beautiful place and there is always fewer people... but more bear! Totally forgot it is the time when they are storing up on their food supply for the winter!!! Bring it on....

Jake has never been to Yellowstone before so we had to make the trip, even if it was in the 20's at night...burrrrr

Old Faithful was faithful but not too much of a show... it's tiny!

It was Ella's first time camping and she did pretty good minus the freezing weather at night. We even hiked around Jenny's Lake and Ella did great! Grandma was loving being with the grandbaby!

The Tetons are so amazing and it was a great trip, we never even saw a bear. That didn't stop me from bringing a 22 shot gun and bear spray.... I LOVE THE OUTDOORS!

Ella is now 10 MONTHS NEW!! I can't believe my baby is almost ONE! She went from rolling to crawling to standing up all in 6 weeks and we have had to baby proof the house. Let the fun begin

Just Another Day in Paradise...

Each day with Ella just flies by and before we know it (or like it) she is now 6 months NEW!! Ella is weighing in at 14 lbs and 241/2 inches long. She is starting to roll around and she scoots on her back to get her places.

Ella is such a HAPPY baby and is smiling constantly. She even looked at me after they gave her the shots and I smiled so she started laughing!!

She has lots of hang time with mommy and we are constantly making each other laugh.....

ST. George here we come!!

We had a wonderful opportunity to get away from the daily buzz and escape to ST. George for a few days!! First thing we did... hit up the pool!! (check out those baby blues)

It was a scorching 98 degrees while we were there so we tested out Ella for the first time in a pool!!

We stayed in a condo that had all the amenities you could think of. Such a nice place. I totally recommend Corel Canyon if you are thinking of staying in ST. George

Sandy City Fiesta Race!!

Sandy City had a 5K race so Jake and I entered to run it!! It was so fun and very rewarding...

It has been awhile since I have posted but access to the internet is limited so here is an update of baby Ella! She is growing so much and keeps us entertained at all times...

She is learning how to eat mush or should I say practicing smearing it across her face!!

Sleeping lots and evidence of kicking her legs ALOT! We can never keeps socks on her.

And learning how to sit up!! She is growing so big at 5 months NEW and is weighing 13 lbs and is 25 inches long.

Okay... isn't she just a doll! I decided that Ella is now three months old and needed to have a photo update. But... because I am too cheap to pay the price for pictures, I again did them by myself. Last week we had to take Ella to the Doctor to get her 2 month shots (yes I know...my baby is growing up). I always told myself I would never be one of those mothers who left the room when their baby was getting immunization shots. Well.....alot changes after you have a baby and I made Jake be the "bad guy" and hold her while I left the room. After two minutes of the saddest tears!!! Ella fell asleep. This picture is of her just after I came back into the room after the last shot! Doesn't that sad face just tug at your heart strings? What a trooper. Ella is doing great though! She is at the 50% for everything! Currently weighing in at 10.2 lbs and 22 inches long. She sleeps 7-8 hours a night and greets me every morning with the most adorable smile. YAHOO!! We love you Ella!!

Miss Personality

Little Girls Are So Precious

Our little Ella is just a piece of Heaven in our lives, she is a beautiful baby and I have no idea how I made it this far in life without her.

My mom and I got a little carried away taking pictures of her, but as you can see.... she didn't seem to mind.

Ella always keeps her feet and toes together and they are the cutest feet I have ever seen.. very kissable!!

Her and daddy are great snugglers and she loves resting her head on his chest. They look so much alike!!

She is a week and a half old today!! We love her so much and she is such an easy and fun baby!! She still is teaching mommy the ropes but it is so fun learning!!

They say that stormy nights and full moons bring babies into the world... I didn't believe it. There is no way the weather could effect when you baby comes into the world. Boy am I DEAD WRONG! Our little Ella Marie came to us last Saturday morning the 13th at 4:09 AM and two weeks early. Not only were there no signs of being in labor but I dilated from a 4 to a 7 in 30 minutes! After 3 hours of labor and an epideral and 10 seconds of pushing... our little princess journeyed to us with wide eyes and ready to take on the world.

My doctor is AMAZING and she got there 5 minutes before Ella decided to say "hello"

Jake is such a good daddy and he loves his little girl. They have so much in common already. She totally has his lips, eyes, fingers and toes.

Ella weighed 6 lbs 7 oz and is 18" long. She is such a dolly and a thrill to be with. I still can't believe that Heavenly Father would entrust such a miracle in my hands but she is such a joy and sometimes I wake her up just so I can hold her and rock her to sleep again.

Here is an update of our adorable puppies!! They finally have their soft fur in and are so fun to watch play around. They have the sweetest personalities and will be ready to go to a loving home in two weeks! If you are interested in a puppy, leave me a comment. In Jake's work, he has an opportunity to meet lots of artists and here he is with Kelly Pickler at a concert he put on. He said she is actually very nice in person. When I asked him if he thought she was hot, he said I was HOTTER .... I love him for lying!!

We went Christmas tree hunting last weekend and found the perfect "Charlie Brown" Christmas tree. We went with my cousins and yes... there are four trees tied on that car.

My cousin and I are both prego and showing off the bellies!

Fun for Halloween

For Halloween Jake and I really got into the spirit and dressed up BIG TIME this year. Jake really wanted to be the Joker (I think he pulled it off). I was Ms. Peacock from the game of "Clue." Let's just say our co-workers thought we were pretty funny. But what a blast!

All Jake needs is the wig and he is set. He really does have the smile of the Joker. Maybe he can play in the next Batman since Heath Ledger is a little "MIA."

Fun for the Anniversary

On November 17th it was our 3 year Anniversary and I am thoroughly convinced that I am married to the most amazing man!!! Jake does such a good job of taking care of our little family and making me fall in love with him a little more each day. Happy Anniversary Jake-I love you more today than I did yesterday.

WE HAVE PUPPIES

Our puppies finally arrived! We have four gorgeous "Lassie" puppies that are healthy and growing each day. Hanna has been such a good mommy and is taking very good care of them.

Each puppy is so sweet and we love watching them play and grow!

This is when they were fairly little and all huddled together.

Here is mommy and the puppies after a nice lunch and passed out!!

We spent some time at my mom's house and Jake got a little carried away with carving his pumpkin.. but isn't it awesome, I love how real it looks!! It's the Joker!! Jake was so proud of his work :)

This time of year is my favorite!! I love carmel apples, carving pumpkins, dressing up and decorating my house. It's the greatest time to be with family!! I hope everyone has a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Visiting Friends

We got to enjoy one last trip back to Cortez and stayed with our good friends. They were so sweet to let us come stay and they are so much fun. This is their little boy and "Jakers" and we got this chair for his older brother's birthday but he seemed to enjoy the present just the same!! Is that not the most adorable smile!!

My dear sweet friends MaryAnn & Sarah threw me a baby shower in Cortez last week. It was so fun to see everyone one last time before the BIG DAY! We played games opened up fun presents!! Don't you just love the cake..... it was so dang cute!

The Baby Bump

I have had quite a few requests to see the latest update of the baby bump. Well here it is!! I feel like I have popped out especially in the last week and the tummy is feeling mighty tight. I just hope that gravity doesn't take too much of an effect.

Jake and I came up to Logan, which is always and treat, and spent the day with Mom. I had such a blast!! Then to top of the day we went miniature golfing at the Willows. Thanks for the AMAZING day mom!

We are having puppies

After finding the right man for Hanna... our dog. We finally are going to have puppies at the end of October. They are pure bread Collies and this mama has been well taken care of her whole life. If anyone is interested in purchasing one of her puppies please let me know. If you haven't ever seen a Collie puppy before they are to DIE for!! And absolutely adorable!!

Two of a Kind

WE ARE HAVING A BABY GIRL!!

We went to the Doctor's about two weeks ago and found out we are having a baby girl!! She is estimated to be to us on December 26th!! I know.... bad timing. She was so cute on the ultrasound and the doctor estimated she did about 10 circles while we were watching her on the monitor. She is tumbling and whirling around and every now and then she will kick me to let me know she is still there. Now knowing what gender we are having we needed to decide on a NAME. I really like the name Addlelyn and Jake really likes Ella. Which one would you choose? I just think Addlelyn is so cute but he says it is too long. But without a name yet... she is still looking healthy and definitely active!!! Hopefully she won't have too much of her daddy's hyperactive hobbies though!!

A day at Temple Square

After Jake being busy everyday of the week with work... we FINALLY had a day to go play so we chose to go to Temple Square and have some fun!!! Jake also took me to my favorite restaurant "The Garden." He is such a great hubby!!!

Well.....it's official. Our little family is going to be seeing a new addition. This will be our first baby and I don't know who is more excited...Jake or me!!! I think I am nervous, Jake just loves playing with the belly and talking to the baby. We are about 4 months along and so far it hasn't been too bad. I have still been able to play at Disneyland, run a 5K and even rock climb. Let's just hope that the worst isn't about to come. We will find out the gender in about three weeks and we will keep you updated.

Moving is never easy to do (or fun). With all the wonderful people we met in Colorado, we will miss you dearly.

We got home from church to find our neighbor boys tied our moving truck to the house so that we wouldn't leave!!

Goodbye's are always the hardest and yet we will never really say goodbye to such great friends and family!! Thanks for everything...we love you very much!!
